The Story

When Donna and Geoff, owners of Breakaway Vacations, approached me, they were looking to revitalize their brand and strengthen their online presence. Their existing websites felt dated and disconnected, and they needed a cohesive digital strategy that would help attract new business while clearly representing their growing collection of vacation properties.

To address their goals, I developed a comprehensive web strategy centered around a “hub and spoke” model. The Breakaway Vacations website would serve as the main hub, connecting visitors to four distinct property sites - La Casa Cottages, Qualicum Landing, Tanglewood Beach Homes and The Currents at Otter Bay. This approach maintained the individuality of each location while reinforcing the overarching Breakaway identity.

I then designed and built four new websites - one for Breakaway Vacations and then one for three of the four remaining properties (Currents at Otter Bay to be redesigned at a later date). The challenge was to make each site feel unique yet unmistakably part of the same family. Through consistent branding, cohesive design elements, and a thoughtful user experience, each site now feels “familiar but distinct,” aligning perfectly with Donna and Geoff’s vision.

The result is a modern, unified online presence that positions Breakaway Vacations as a trusted and professional brand - and creates a seamless experience for travelers exploring their properties.

In addition to designing and developing their websites, I also helped refresh their marketing materials to support the updated brand identity. This included revamping the logos for Breakaway Vacations and its properties, and creating a brand-new logo for La Casa to better reflect its personality and setting.

To ensure consistency across all touchpoints, I also designed business cards for Breakaway and custom window decals for their company vans at La Casa Resort - turning their vehicles into moving brand ambassadors!

Custom property management system with easy-to-use interface

I created a property management system to make it easy for users to add, edit, or remove properties. Checkboxes and fields are displayed conditionally, depending upon which primary options are chosen. For example, if a user selects the bed type "Queen", they will then be presented with a field to input how many Queen beds the property has.

The data from this interface is then used to dynamically populate the layout for the individual property on the front-end.

Custom property filter

Each website required a property listing section to display the available rentals, with the visitor being able to filter the properties by number of bedrooms. For La Casa, this required a two-tiered filter to allow visitors to first filter by property location before filtering by number of bedrooms.

Graphic design and brand collateral

Every business needs marketing materials! I created business cards for Breakaway Vacations and designed a new logo for La Casa. Then, I received a request to design window decals for the various company vans on-site at La Casa Resort.

Brand Consistency

Taking a "familiar, but distinct" approach to the Breakaway Vacations brand ensures that while each website has a distinct color scheme and variable layouts, the look, feel and user experience is consistent and familiar.
